MUSINGS #7: TRUE EXPRESSION
When the inner meets the outer voice.
Musings is a think piece series at The Cornerstone. Including writing that fuels fire and resonance, an accompanying audio, and an oracle reading about the energy of each one. I welcome you to a creative expression that’s close to my heart.
LISTEN TO MUSINGS #7: TRUE EXPRESSION
I suppose you can relate to this. Whether this is constant or shows up out of the blue.
Wherever you fall on the spectrum doesn’t matter, just that you’re being honest with yourself.
Here’s what I’m talking about:
A battle between your inner voice and the outer expression of it.
I know it’s a real challenge for many. It especially rings true in the entrepreneurial and creative spaces.
Even when we know what we want to say, positioning ourselves as a leader in [insert your own space here], there’s pressure that actually has nothing to do with our audience and everything to do with the stories we tell ourselves.
This is probably why the present iteration of my business focuses on merging the gap between both in a multitude of ways, but very specifically through my 6-week immersive offer called The Merge.
But business or not. Entrepreneur or not. Creative or not. You’re still a human being who may deal with some real inner and outer pulls, that either shows up constant or out of the blue.
This piece dives into the parts of me that refused to dance with each other for years, but have finally (in their own way) found a rhythm that’s more sustainable than what it was in the past.
To bring this full circle, I bring this topic to you because I know what it’s like to have a battle between the inner voice and the outer expression.
I think it’s one of my many lessons to go through in this lifetime, but without giving too much more away let’s go on this journey.
As a person who’s introverted by nature, naturally I feel more than I share or show. Life has given me lessons though.
Lessons that still help me shape the how and when to express outwardly.
Lessons that help me shape how and when to keep things to myself.
As much as I love connecting and sharing with others, the me expressing to me makes it possible to share outwardly.
Soothing me, grounding me, filling me.
This is a truth I’ve discovered along the way. A truth innately hard to work with, but truth nonetheless.
Inner and outer expression don’t have to be in war with each other. It can be part of a gentler push and pull like the inner expression that fills me and the outer expression that frees me.
For years they’ve been fighting for space when all they had to do was give each other space (ironically). The two honestly dance so beautifully together in moments I’m:
+ fired up
+ excited as hell
+ working on a project
+ having conversations
+ connecting with someone
+ listening to someone’s story
+ planning from idea to execution
+ going to a coffee shop
+ diving into my next book
+ gathering a sense of community
I can list these off all thanks to the rabbit hole of deep introspection I find myself in often, but I didn’t notice until recently just how much they do know how to dance together.
In my humaness. In the wholeness of me. In the fullness of who I am in this life, they’re both still:
Slowly learning
Slowly integrating
Finding a rhythm
Trying on a different wardrobe entirely
Learning a whole new dance
A dance that’s alive and soulful.
A dance that doesn’t scream “SEE ME PLEASE.” but says, “See, it’s me.”
A dance that isn’t troubled the moment one form of expression leads the way, because there’s room for both.
The merging is quite beautiful. I can’t think about what moment shifted it, only that it shifted.
I’ve seen it in my eyes.
I’ve heard it in conversations with loved ones.
I’ve sensed it the way my mind moves.
I can now consciously embrace them. Both making me more open to change, because the me that has learned, and continues to learn, is calmer, is present, and is less fragile.
And finally all of me can exist as is. In all its juxtaposition but fully expressed because of it.
ORACLE ENERGY READING
The biggest energy I want to tap into, before sharing the oracle energy reading, is surrender. Surrender to your inner voice so it becomes easier to move towards the direction you truly want to go.
To me, this feels like a big shake up for creatives. Our lives (because yes me too) is intermingled with our gifts and how we share it with the world. This makes it incredibly impossible to not meet ourselves at this kind of crossroad often — do we surrender or just knuckle our way through?
With letting go to what is, today’s messages are focused on how to find the middle ground to do it and trust the inner voice to finally ‘walk the walk’.
From each oracle deck, the Work Your Light oracle deck by Rebecca Campbell and the Infinite Wisdom of the Chakras oracle deck written by Alison Denicola and Art by Dhra Lawrence, I pulled one card.
CARD 1: THIRD EYE CHAKRA - OM
Message on card: Travel deep within your consciousness and realize your vast potential.
Your intuition truly wants to have a relationship with you. When was the last time you listened to it?
When was the last time you felt a nudge but went in the different direction? When was the last time you understood that whatever pattern keeps showing up is more of a lesson than what’s happening to you? When was the last time you trusted your gut?
All of these questions are tied to the connection with your third eye.
This chakra is about connecting with yourself and developing a sense of knowing. It’s also the chakra that allows you to connect with the divine, your higher self, the collective, visions, dreams, and other ways that you may define as getting downloads.
If you’ve never connected with this energy center, here are a few things you can do:
Meditation practices
Chant OM with your eyes closed while focusing on the middle of your eyebrows
Movement like yoga
Long walks
Visualization practices (similar to my envisioning practice)
Talk to someone you trust about what’s going on for you and listen to the wisdom that comes out of you
CARD 2: STAR MOTHER
Message on card: How can you Mother yourself?
When you think about a mother, or your own, what do you think about? The Mother energy is about nurture, care, and acceptance. So many qualities to surrendering and what it can do for you.
With the message of this card, the key theme I see is about taking care of yourself. You don’t have to carry everything alone and trust that you’re doing your best.
Being hard on yourself is actually more damaging than you think it is, even when you feel like it ‘fixes’ things.
Don’t give up, but in the process lay it all down and release the pressure. Answers also come when you’re tending to yourself with love in the same way a mother figure would.

wow ‘surrender’ has come up a lot for me recently so it was wild you brought that up!! also love the oracle reading
